Becoming debt free is something every Christian can—and should—accomplish. The Bible tells us in Romans 13:8 to “keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love on anther…” (The Amplified Bible). In fact, as believers, we should be the lender, not the borrower (Deuteronomy 28:12).
What’s the big deal over borrowing money when all the world seems to be in debt? The problem is just that—debt is part of the world’s system of finance. It’s a system devised by the devil to keep us in bondage to the world (see Deuteronomy 28:15, 43-44; Proverbs 22:7). Jesus, however, has redeemed us from the curse of the law, and we are free to walk in all the blessing of Abraham (Galatians 3:13-14).
You may be thinking: I understand that the Scriptures tell us to get out of debt. But how realistic is it for me to even think about owning a car or a house, or any of the other nice things I want, if I’m not willing to borrow the money to get them?
That’s a good question, and we want to share with you the following powerful truths that we have discovered—and experienced—in God’s Word.
Decide to get out of debt and live debt free.
Start by giving the Word first place in your life, and by making it
your final authority. With that, you must decide to obey Romans 13:8
and believe God to be your source for all your needs and desires.
Determine to be single-minded (James 1:8, 22-25), and then meditate on
the Word (Psalm 1:1-3; Joshua 1:8).
Put God first in your financial affairs.
Decide that no matter what comes your way, you will obey God’s Word and
tithe, as well as be a giver (Malachi 3:8-12; 2 Corinthians 9:6-15).
Tithing lays the foundation for your financial success. (See the
confession about giving below.)
Believe God for your daily bread (Matthew 6:11).
This is the money you need for your household to function every day.
Your tithes and giving should be included in this, but don’t cheat
yourself. Make sure you also include in this “daily bread” amount some
“padding” for other things—such as debt payments, etc.—above your
tithes, giving and necessities.
And remember, do not write “hot” checks—checks which your bank balance will not cover. This is fraud.
Get in agreement (Matthew 18:19).
Have your spouse agree with you, and if you are not married, find a strong believer who will agree with you.
Lay hold of it by faith.
Follow the principles set out in Mark 11:23-24. Believe in your heart
and confess with your mouth that your needs are met, that you are out
of debt, that the windows of heaven are opened to you, that the
hundredfold return is yours in this lifetime and that you operate
financially according to the wisdom of God. (See Proverbs 2:1-10,
3:13-18.)
Bind the devil in the Name of Jesus (Matthew 18:18; Mark 16:17; James 4:7; Ephesians 6:10-18).
In Jesus’ Name, order Satan and all his forces out of your financial
affairs. When you are dealing with a financial matter involving the
family, it is important that the husband and/or father—who is
responsible as the spiritual head of the home—take the lead in this
resistance of the devil’s attacks.
Loose the forces of heaven into your financial affairs (Hebrews 1:14; Psalm 103:20).
The angels of God are your ministering spirits and they too will assist you.
Praise God for the manifestation of His power in your financial affairs (Psalm 9:1-4, 67:5-6, 68:19).
Praise keeps the door to abundance wide open. When the channel between
you and God is clear, you can receive His promises.
Finally, it is important to realize—and decide—that you are living to
give (Ephesians 4:28). Live on the increase from your giving, that is,
reach for the place in your financial life where the income from your
job or business becomes your seed for giving.
And as you sow, believe for a hundredfold harvest. You will be a
blessing to others and be out of debt. God will bless you and “make all
grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all
things, may abound to every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).
Interest: Your Greatest Expense
Approximately three-quarters of U.S. pension funds do not have enough money invested to pay out expected pension benefits. Most of these companies are betting on a stock market upswing to build up their investments. If it doesn't happen, they'll have to cut into their profits or cut back on future benefits.
What are you relying on for your retirement? Social Security? Your pension plan? Your investments?
The best way to ensure your financial future is to pay down debt and build a diversified base of investments for the future.
Most of us can't rely on Social Security, company pensions or inheritances to help us through retirement. We need to wake up and take control of planning for our own future by saving money on interest through smarter borrowing and by paying off debt faster.
Interest is the greatest expense we will pay. We must learn to negotiate interest we earn as well as interest we pay on the debt we use. For example, the chart below shows us how interest affects the debt we pay and the number of years it will take us to pay it off. This example is based on a principal balance of $3,000 with a minimum payment of $60 per month.
| Amount of Loan | Monthly Payment | Interest Rate | No. of Years | Total Interest Paid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $3,000 | $60 | 19.8% | 32 Years, 5 months | $9,483 |
| $3,000 | $60 | 16.8% | 21 Years | $5,055 |
As you can see we must begin to take a closer look at our debts and begin to reduce the interest we pay on them. The chart above shows a difference of over $4,000 dollars over the life of the loan just by paying 3% more in interest. Our lifestyles are impacted greatly due to the overwhelming interest we pay on our debts. We reduce our spending power, we reduce our earning power, and we blindly go on month after month paying the minimum payments on our credit cards, mortgages and other revolving debt—ultimately missing the opportunities to establish wealth long-term.
Why is it important to negotiate your interest on both your debts and your investments?
Pay attention to INTEREST in every situation. Don't fall for the common mistakes of introductory offers and no pay—no interest plans that backfire when you can't meet your minimum payments. Protect your future; increase your quality of life by paying attention to your financial agreements. Sit down and write a list of your creditors and list the interest you owe each of them. Make a list of your investments and the interest you are earning so that you will be more informed about your financial matters. Pay off the highest interest rates first and then add those payments to the bill with the next highest interest you will pay off your debt much sooner than you expected.
Dream Killers
A recent caller to my radio show shared how frustrated she and her husband were because the home they purchased after renting for twenty years continues to decrease in value. Are you planning on selling your house in the very near future I asked? No, she replied. Then what does it matter?
Listen up—I don't mean to sound cold or indifferent but the fact is that the value of anything is based on what a buyer will pay at the time you sell! I applauded the caller and her husband for finally taking the steps to secure their financial future by purchasing a home. Far too many people allow current circumstances and other people to influence and prevent them from moving toward achieving their dreams. You know who and what I'm talking about—those people sitting on the sidelines out of the game telling everyone who will listen why they shouldn't make a move because of everything that can and will go wrong. These people are dream killers who wouldn't see an opportunity if it fell on them. How do you prevent yourself and others around you from adopting this unwealthy mindset? Acquire the habit of seeing every problem you encounter as a potential opportunity.
Wealthy Mindset Tip #1
Magic Johnson ventured into Urban America where the headlines said there was only crime and poverty. He on the other hand saw an oasis of opportunity for providing his community with movie theatres and coffee houses. Are there other products and services that could add value to the people in your community that no one else has discovered yet?
Wealthy Mindset Tip #2

Baby boomers make up the largest segment of the U.S. population and are turning age sixty every 7 seconds. That's a startling statistic and you should be thinking about what product or service you could create to address an aging population. Perhaps it's eldercare or a concierge business focusing on running errands like grocery shopping or chauffeuring. Statistics can help you identify certain trends, and more importantly opportunities.
Wealthy Mindset #3
"I keep bouncing checks and can't seem to get a handle on my finances." This is the complaint that I hear most often from the callers to my radio program. Well did you know there are people called Daily Money Managers (aaddmm.com) that organize bills and create budgets for people who don't or never learned how to manage their money? Listen to common complaints and if you can come up with a solution you are on your way to a wealthy future.
So the next time someone comes to you complaining about some problem or telling you why something can't or won't happen simply flip the script. Determine if lots of other people are encountering the same problem and create a product or service as the solution. Adding value to others is the real secret to building wealth.

Recognizing What Battles to Fight.
We all have battles we can choose to engage in each day. There are
small petty battles and then there are battles that come across our
path that can launch us into our God given destinies. The difference
between the two is one type of battle will distract and drain you from
the strength you’ll need for the real battle that’s important to fight.
Many people miss out on God’s best because they are distracted by
battles that really don’t matter; trying to prove themselves to people,
trying to be right all of the time, fighting about small insignificant
matters with your spouse and children. Engaging in these battles do not
do any good, rather they stir up dissension and cause strife which will
rob you and the people around you of peace. The Bible says in Proverbs
20:3, “Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor.” We’re not supposed to be
in fight mode all the time. When we learn the difference between which
battles to fight, and learn to practice self control, we will have
strength for when we really need to fight the battle that matters; the
battle standing between you and your God given destiny. You’ll have
enough strength and discernment, and you will find yourself blessed,
ready and assured; ready for all that God has for you to be!
God desires that you be so blessed that you can turn around and be a blessing everywhere you go! He wants you to have so much peace, so much joy, so much victory that when other people get around you it spills over onto them! In the book of Psalms, David said, “My cup runs over.” He was overflowing with the anointing—the tangible, effective power of God. Too many people today have a barely-get-by-mentality. They settle for thoughts like, “I can barely pay my bills…I have an okay job…I have an okay marriage.” But Jesus came so we can live an abundant life! That means an abundance of joy, an abundance of peace, an abundance of health, an abundance of finances. You may not see it right now, and maybe you haven’t experienced it in the past, but don’t get complacent and just settle for where you are. Get a vision for your future! Get a vision for increase! Get a vision for Abundance! Psalm 35:27 says, “Let them say continually, ‘Let the Lord be magnified Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His children.’” God delights to see you prosperous and successful. When you choose to think God’s thoughts and choose God’s way, you’ll see that increase and victory in every area of your life. Now is the time to move forward and live the abundant life God has planned for you!
Living under the Rain of God !
God longs for us to be like a well watered garden, flourishing, full of
joy, always in blossom. Yet many times, due to situations that are
happening in our lives, we don’t necessarily feel like we are in full
blossom, rather we feel like we’re in a dry spell. When this happens,
instead of giving up and accepting your present circumstance as your
lot in life, decide to praise God more than you ever have. In the
Bible, the psalmist said, “I will keep on hoping for You to help me. I
will praise You more and more.” When we decide to give God praise,
something powerful and supernatural happens. Peace, joy and divine
favor begin to rain down over our lives.
By praising God at all times, what happens in the natural with rain,
will be the same spiritually over your lives; a cloud can only hold so
much condensation, so many vapors, before it releases. In the same way,
when you keep sending up praise, you keep singing, “God is good all the
time,” that cloud can only hold so much before the blessings come
bursting back down. When you stay full of praise, God’s blessing will
begin raining down, making sure that you are always in blossom; causing
you to bloom where you’re currently planted, even if you’re in a dry
spell!
Keep the right perspective.

Throughout the Word, God plainly shows that His will is for His covenant people to have a surplus of prosperity. He promised to make Abraham rich, and the promise of Abraham is ours today (Galatians 3:13-14; Genesis 17:6). God’s will is prosperity for you—spirit, soul and body.
We want to share with you what true Bible prosperity is and how to apply it to your own life. We encourage you to look up each of the following scriptures as a basis for your own study.
What Is Prosperity?
Matthew 6:33; James 2:14-17; John 14:21; 2 Corinthians 9:9
True prosperity is the ability to use God’s ability and power to meet the needs of mankind—regardless of what those needs may be.
Spiritual Prosperity
Romans 8:2; Luke 4:18, 6:27-38
Spiritual prosperity is freedom from the law of sin and death. To be born again and filled with the Holy Spirit puts you in the position to receive from God all the things promised in His word.
Mental Prosperity
2 Corinthians 10:5; 3 John 2-4; Philippians 4:7; 1 Thessalonians 5:14
To prosper mentally (in your soul), you must be able to control your mind, your will and your emotions. Prosperity of the mind comes when you use the knowledge you have accumulated from the Word of God—when you are controlling your mind, instead of allowing your mind to control you.
Physical Prosperity
1 Peter 2:24; Mark 16:15-20; Luke 6:38; 2 Corinthians 9:8
Physical prosperity is twofold—health and wealth. Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law—sickness, poverty and death (Deuteronomy 28:15-61). Health and wealth belong to the believer. Meditation on the Word and acting on the Word will bring results (Joshua 1:8). When you act on the Word, mix your faith with it and do not doubt in your heart, the Word will work for you.
What produces spiritual, mental and physical prosperity? What brings all these areas together? The Word of God.
Hebrews 4:12 says the Word is alive, powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword. It divides the soul and the spirit, the joints and the marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. When you are walking in the Word of God, you will prosper and be in health.
We cannot settle for prosperity in the physical or mental realm only, just as we cannot settle for spiritual prosperity alone. We can’t afford to be lazy and to discount physical and mental prosperity simply because we are saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. It is God’s will for us to be made whole—spirit, soul and body—and to be kept that way until the return of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
As you walk in the light of God’s Word, you will become prosperous in every area of your life.
“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts” (Malachi 3:10-11).
This is God Himself speaking and He is saying, “Prove Me in this.” This is the only time in the Word where God instructs us to prove Him, and it is the one area where most people have withdrawn from proving God.
Tithing was instituted under the Old Covenant as a way for God to communicate His blessing to His people. The word tithe means “tenth or ten percent.” Proverbs 3:9 says, “Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase.” Tithes are to be given from the first fruits, from the top— the gross, not the net. A person who does not tithe is robbing God and is operating under a curse (Malachi 3:8-9). The first fruits of our income is God’s; it is not ours to use to pay bills.
Tithing is different from seed-faith gifts and offerings. The tithe is your 10 percent that God commands us to give—gifts and offerings are above and beyond it. Some people want to give “as the Lord leads them” instead of tithing—but the Spirit would never lead you against His Word. The Word says to tithe.
Tithing is not only an Old Covenant command, but also a New Testament blessing and privilege. Hebrews 7:8 says, “Here men that die receive tithes. But there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.”
In the Old Covenant, God’s people would place their tithe—the first fruits of their increase—in a basket, present it to the high priest, and say to him, “I profess this day unto the Lord thy God, that I am come unto the country which the Lord sware unto our fathers for to give us” (Deuteronomy 26:2-3). They spoke their redemption.
According to Colossians 1:13, we have been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of his dear Son. As believers, we are living in the kingdom of God. We have entered into our inheritance in Jesus Christ and possess it in His Name. Jesus is the High Priest of the New Covenant. When we take our tithes to our High Priest and speak our redemption, He receives them and then presents them to the Father (Hebrews 3:1, 7:8).
When we stand on our covenant with God and exercise our rights as tithers, we lay a foundation for success and abundance. Satan has no chance against us. Tithing the tithe rebukes the devourer! When we resist Satan in the Name of Jesus, God’s rebuke is in action. God told the Israelites their words were stout against Him. They were confessing lack and want. It is important to speak our redemption in order for the tithe to produce.
Where you place you tithe depends on where you are receiving your spiritual food. God says to bring the tithes into the storehouse. That is where the food is—where a pastor, an evangelist, an apostle or some other ministry is in operation. When you give, you are not giving to an individual, but for the furtherance of the gospel. Since your tithe is God’s money and since Jesus is the One who handles and receives it, you should always pray and let Him tell you where it should be put to work.
Our Heavenly Father is very interested in you and desires the very best for you. It is His will that you prosper and be in health as your soul prospers (3 John 2). Be aware that God is not limited to meet your need or bless you through a paycheck, although He can certainly use a paycheck to do so. Always remember that God is your source and you are His very own child.
Keep the Word first place in your life. Do what God told Joshua in Joshua 1:8: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good succes.”
We join our faith with yours as you pray this prayer:
“Father, in Jesus’ Name, I seek Your wisdom and trust You to direct me in seeking the job that is best for me. I will walk in mercy and truth and lean not unto my own understanding. Thank You for opening wide a door which no man can shut and for giving me favor.
“It is my desire, Father, to be debt-free and owe no man anything except to love him, according to Your Word. I am willing to work with my own hands, so that I lack nothing. I praise You that it is Your will that I am self-sufficient financially and have an abundance to meet all of my needs, with enough left over to give generously to others.
“I will not fret or have anxiety about anything, Father, for Your peace mounts guard over my heart and mind. Because You are my source, I have confidence, comfort and encouragement in Your provision. I thank You, Father, for supplying my need of employment according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Father, in the Name of Jesus, I confess that Your Word reigns over every area of my life. Because of that, I live a prosperous life. I thank You that You liberally supply and fill to the fullest measure every need according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus. According to Deuteronomy 8:18, You give the power to get wealth in order to establish Your covenant. So as an act of my faith, I receive that power to work in my life.
I confess before You that I am a giver. As I give abundantly of my increase, I know You will make all grace, every favor and earthly blessing, come to me in abundance so that I am always, under all circumstances and whatever the need, totally self-sufficient, possessing enough to require no aid or support, and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation.
Father, I thank You that Your angels are free to minister for me and bring in the necessary finances so that I can continue to be generous to Your work. It is written that Your angels have been sent to minister for heirs of salvation, so I loose them now to work in my behalf.
I confess today that I am redeemed from the curse of poverty. I resist lack and say it has no place in me. The Lord is my shepherd; I do not want. Abundance is mine. Success is mine. The blessings of the Lord are mine. I confess it and thank You for it, in Jesus’ Name.

Don't Do Your Kids A Favor:
Help Them Learn From Their Mistakes
Failure. It's part of life from the time we are very young until we are very old. It happens to all of us, no matter how hard we try to do things "right." Parents and caregivers often want to spare their children and teenagers the pain of failure, but we must remember that failing and making mistakes are necessary elements of growth, development, and maturity. Learn to encourage and affirm the children and young people under your influence when they fail. With good coaching, even the youngest among us can gain the proper perspective on failure and mistakes and see these things as stepping stones to success.
Teach Them that Failure is not Fatal
Help children and young people put failure in perspective. Explain to them that failure does not mean "the end of the world." Maybe a child or teenager in your life fails to make a school sports team or the cast of the school play, but that does not mean he or she cannot play on a church or neighborhood team or put on dramatic productions for family and friends. Don't let their dreams die because of failure or disappointment. Instead, help them re-route their energies into further developing their skills so they can succeed next time. Help them practice what they need to practice in order to succeed in the future, and use encouraging words and phrases such as: "You are doing better every day" or "I am so proud of you!"
Teach Them to Learn from their Mistakes
Webster's Dictionary defines mistake as "an error in action, opinion, or judgment caused by poor reasoning, carelessness, insufficient knowledge, etc." In other words, mistakes are not intentional; they result from lack of training, experience, or knowledge. At the same time, they lead to training, experience, and knowledge. Teach the children and young people in your life that every mistake is an opportunity. When they make mistakes, ask questions such as:
Look for the positive lessons to be learned from the mistakes your children make. Ask them to identify what they've learned after they make mistakes and help them see the specific ways each mistake teaches them a lesson that will help them do better next time. Remind them of the old saying, "Everyone makes mistakes," and encourage them to use their mistakes to help them move toward success.
Teach Them that Failure is not Final
Children and teenagers respond differently to failure. For some,
failure is just what they need to be determined to try again with
renewed effort and energy. For others, failure discourages them
completely, makes them afraid to try anything again, and inspires them
only to give up. Remind them every time they fail that "there's always
next time." Do everything you can to keep them encouraged in a healthy
way—not trying again out of anger over a past failure or refusing to
try again because of embarrassment.
Above all, remind them often that you love and value them simply because of who they are, not because of what they can or cannot do. That way, they'll never feel like a failure in your eyes!
